straight away told im not ready for baptism, not with the amount and depth of questions, that ive been warned about these sites and that apostates will do anything to knock jws.
proving its the true religion bec the bible says it will happen (shows me scriptures).
also told it doesnt happen with any other religious group - usually people just quietly leave and make no fuss - further proof that ths is the true religion.. i asked about all the dates where predictions were made, eg 1914, 1975. was told there were some articles loosly talking the 'possibility' of something happening, but the wt never said it definitely would - how could it, these are just ordinary men, not profits.

the silver lining in this cloud is that you will not suffer from the JW nonsense the way many on this forum have.
I am sorry you are hurting. But they really did you a favor.
Keep lookiing on your spiritual quest; do not be discouraged; least of all not by THEM.

i was talking with someone i work with who is a jw and suggested i might look into it.

I was raised a JW; I regular pioneered for 4 years after High school. The generation I was raised with as a JW was continually discouraged from higher education. College was considered the course for worldly people. Theocratic young people were encouraged to show their devotion to jehovah by pioneering ; going to bethel; gilead or serving where the need was great. After all, the end was SO CLOSE. ( I was around for all the 1975 hoopla)
College was not ecouraged AT ALL. . If you showed any interest in higher education you were considered spiritually weak and in "need of encouragement".
I left full time pioneering in 1977 to attend college full time to study architecture. My elder dad was a college educated engineer and encouraged me to pursue the education. Needless to say it caused an uproar in the congregation; and ultimately led to my fading out..
I cannot imagine that their thinking has changed concerning higher education or college.

Jehovahs witnesses will ask you to give up every friend and family member who is not a JW and has no plans to convert. The JW teachings will dictate to you what you can and cannot do; even in your marriage.
They will tell you how to educate your children; and will ask that you deny them a college education ( they will not admit to this but from experience ; myself and everyone on this forum will attest to it). And they will do all this in the name of god.
They want to control your life.
If this is agreeable to you; you will qualify to be a member of their faith.

to clarify my comments about "bringing it on myself" ; the intent was that although I was also raised as a JW and very "theocratic"; my actions are viewed , in hindsite as being very harsh and judgemental.
I make the comments about myself and my experiences. The "bad karma" coming down on the Watchtower organization itself ( the headquarters) I believe is well earned. As a religious organization I believe they deserve the "bad press" that they have been recieving.
The individual treatment of "shunning" I believe is inhuman and I would not wish that on anyone. Although I was and contiunue to be shunned . But my point is that at one time I was the shunner and now the roles are reversed.

i'm just new to this internet stuff and am studying with the jehovah's witnesses at present.please don't take my lack of knowledge as cheek.
i just want to know if it's meant to be only jehovah's witnesses using this site.
i fully intend to become baptised but was wondering if there's any security to prevent people who shouldn't be using the site and are maybe abusing it from doing so.

YAWN....there really are more important things happening in the world guys.....why waste your time trying to convince those who choose " blind ignorance" over any rational thought. It is always good to hear an intelligent verbal joust but all of us posting on this forum know the "B" teams arguements before we start...

in my opinion, yes; we brought it on ourselves. Very plain and simple.
As an active, dedicated JW I recall shunning many individuals for no other reason than that they thought differently than me. It was only a small action which contributed to many others making up what was a very narrow, simple black or white life that I led. I was, after all ; going to live forever with other like minded people who served jehovah---were we not the fortunate ones?
This horrible mentality came crashing down on top of me when I was the one being shunned. The lesson I learned was truly " do onto others...."
going back to a kingdom hall?.
recently i've had a couple of visits from jws while i was at work.
each time they left a message that the co was going to be visiting this week and that it would be good if i went to the meeting.. i was really surprised at the strong reaction i had to the thought of going to a meeting again.
I went back 5 years ago because one of my neighbors was a JW and passed on. It was someone I had known growing up as a JW. I went to attend the funeral talk at the kingdom hall out of respect because there was no wake at a funeral home. I also went because I was a good neighbor.
I attended with my father who had been an elder and a friend of this deceased person. After the talk , Some old JW friends came up to us and said hello; most kept their distance and just stared at us.
When my father passed on 2 years later, not one of these individuals came to my fathers service; much less called my mother to offer condolences. So much for good neighbors.
This proved to me what tartars these people are.

yes, the scripture says that they will be "killed" but not thrown into the lake of fire.
but what about the scripture at revelation 17:8?

it must be about 13 years since i went out in service.
about 15 years since i went out a couple times a month, and about 18 years since i went at least once a week.. i just can't imagine going from door to door anymore.
but to think that we all did it for quite awhile.
...maybe 23 years....
